Mini Rays Program

Mini Rays Program (June 4 to July 18, 2025)

Mini Rays is a program designed for young, pre-competitive swimmers. At Sun Valley Pool, we have a low swimmer to coach ratio of 1:1 or 2:1. Mini Ray coaches are 13 & older Sun Valley Swim Team members under the instruction of our swim team head coach. The average age for Mini Rays is 4-6 years old. We strive for a fun and friendly environment where our youngest swimmers can gain confidence in their swimming. The Mini Rays season accumulates with our Mini Rays Meet on July 13th where our entire swim team community will cheer and support our Mini Rays as they have their first freestyle race.

Space is limited! 

Goals

• Cultivate and develop an enthusiasm for swimming
• Ensure water safety for swimmers
• Teach fundamentals of the competitive strokes
• Swimmers can swim the length of pool by end of program

Prerequisites

• Must be able to enter the pool voluntarily and independently and is comfortable in the water;
• Swimmer can exhale underneath the water surface (blowing bubbles); 
• Can hold onto the wall and show attentiveness to a coach;
• Can float and kick on front and back;
• Can swim 2-3 yards independently.

Evaluations: Evaluations will be held in late April at Sun Valley Pool. In some cases, coaches may encourage the swimmer to join the 6 & under swim team.

Mini Ray Swim Meet: Mini Rays will have the opportunity to swim in their very own "mini" meet of the season. Their Mini Ray coach will be with them in the pool for the race. This meet is a fun way to cap off the Mini Ray program and experience what swim team is all about.

Mini Ray Party: A wrap-up celebration will be planned after the final practice day, Friday July 18th.
